Speaking to The Evening Echo, Diarmuid’s partner and mother of his two children revealed she has accepted he will not return home.

She said:

“As the days go by I’m afraid that I could still be here in a year’s time, not knowing what happened.

“He was my best friend, I miss him so much, but I feel worse for the kids.

The couples’ eldest daughter is four and their youngest just two.

She continued: “Our eldest daughter who is four kept running to the door, expecting her dad to come back so I had to tell her that he has gone to heaven.

“The gardaí maintain that he is still out there but if he was, surely he would have been found by now.”

Gardaí are appealing for three men who visited Whitechurch Recycling Centre at 6.20am to contact the gardaí so that they can eliminate them from their enquiries.

They have also renewed appeals to farmers in the area to search their properties now that the unusually harsh weather conditions have cleared.

Anyone with information should contact Gurranabraher Garda Station on 021-4946200.
