Not only will the update save you monthly minutes, but the low data mode doesn't eat up all your allowance, meaning it's savings all round.
The messaging app, which already enables VoIP calls, however the lower bandwidth calling option means those with weak 3G connections or restricted data packages will be able to make phone calls more freely.
According to TechRadar the low data usage option has only a very minor effect on in-call audio quality.
It is expected the update will roll out to iOS and Android users in the coming days.
