The woman, identified only as Cheryl, spoke to the local radio station and said that the reason she was handing out the letters was because she wanted to send a message to overweight children.
However there were those who thought that her actions could be seen as more damaging for the child than good.
"It's just that kind of thing that for some kids, if they're vulnerable, might trigger major problems," said Dr. Katie Gordon, an assistant professor of Clinical Psychology who spoke with Valley News Live.
She continued, stating that it's impossible to judge someone's health "just by looking at them."
