We're shocked to inform you folks, that we are in fact not the great tea drinkers that we all believe. This next graph has changed everything, we only hope that Mrs. Doyle doesn't see it.
According to this graph our tea drinking abilities have come in at second place, after being pipped (beaten by a mile) to the post by Turkey.
This graph, compiled by Euromonitor and the World Bank,
Quartz, shows that only Turkey consumes more of the stuff per head than the emerald isle.
The data, published today, calculates that our small island gets through 4.8 lbs per head every year, just over half a pound ahead of the UK, thus making us the second biggest tea drinkers globally. On the grand scale of things, we think we're happy enough with that.
We are still putting this runners up position down to the surge in hipster coffee shops. Those hipsters...
