Speaking to the Mail Online, Therese Quinnin chose to waive her anonymity in a bid to highlight to other victims of domestic abuse that there is a way forward:
“He would smash the whole house up. Once he put the light chord from the bathroom around my throat and tried to strangle me. I spoke out to help other women that are in the same situation.
“I just want other women out there to realise they don’t have to give up, don’t let yourself be a victim forever.”
Therese, who suffered rapes, sexual assault and physical violence at the hands of her ex-husband Paul Clarke, said the abuse affected not just her but her children too.
The mother of six also said she is unsure which of her children were conceived of rape.
She added:
“That’s why I waived my anonymity, because there will be a good many other abusers out there who know how to abuse the system to their advantage, and they will do it.”
Clarke is now serving a 16-year prison sentence for his crimes.
