In the recent storms that battered Cornish and Welsh coastlines, ancient trees were discovered after being underwater for thousands of years. Gale force winds stripped away much of the sand from stretches of the beach between Borth and Ynyslas, and prehistoric forests emerged. According to The Telegraph, scientists have long known forests existed. After the sand and shingle that preserved the trees had shifted, geologists were able to use radioactive carbon dating the specimens between 4000 to 6000 years ago.
