While trekking through the Himalayan outback, photographer Sebastian Wahlhuetter was accompanied by a four-legged companion that began following his group.
Never one to miss a photo opportunity, Sebastian took a shot of the golden dog and uploaded it to his blog.
After the young photographer uploaded the beautiful image to 500px, in January it was shared on Reddit, unsurprisingly went viral and reached the top spot on the front page.
In his blog post he explains how he met the wandering dog, which he suspected acted like a guard dog in exchange for food.
“This dog just appeared out of nowhere and followed us for an entire week during our trekking trip in the Himalayan outback. He always used to sleep in front of our tent and guarded us in the nights. When I got up at 4 a.m. to climb the next 5000 m peak for sunrise he accompanied me as well. On the top he was sitting for the entire 30 minutes on this place looking straight into the countryside. I’m normally quite reserved towards dogs, but this one became a real friend to me.”
His suspicions were correct, as Redditor, u/fourfa, also explained how he discovered the same dog whilst trekking through the Himalayas and shared photos of his own.
