An emergency crew in South Yorkshire has caused outrage online after taking a selfie at a crash scene and posting the image to Twitter.

A police officer was seen tweeting a picture of smiling paramedics and firefighters on site, posting the image with the hashtag #professionals at work.

The photo sparked a backlash online, with the public calling the shot ‘disrespectful’ to those involved in the crash.

According to Metro UK, the picture was taken at the scene of a four-vehicle crash on the A171, which runs from Whitby to Scarborough, north Yorkshire, on Tuesday.

All five people involved suffered only minor injuries, but one of the victims told Metro UK he was unimpressed by the actions of the emergency crew on-site:

“There are things you don’t do and this is one. I’m sure drivers stuck in jams caused by the crash would have been annoyed to see the emergency services taking selfies.”

The officer who took the picture has since apologised, and local fire brigade bosses say they will investigate the matter further.
