When Miranda and her sister Emily DeLong both decided to come out as bisexual to their parents, they were greeted by nothing but love. Unfortunately the reaction from their respective school years and locals hasn’t always been as supportive. When the girls returned home to find “I’m Gay” spray painted over their family’s garage, the DeLongs managed to turn the vandalism into a sign of support for their children. Miranda (17) and her sister Emily (14) were hurt by the vandalism, but after their parents filed a police report over the graffiti, they decided to repaint the door. Painting the panels of the garage in bright rainbow colours as a symbol of LGBT pride, the family showed their united front against someone who had tried to tag them in shame.

Speaking to her local paper, The Press of Atlantic City, mum Erin Kennedy DeLong said she was proud of her daughters embracing their sexuality: “We were really positive about it. It doesn’t change who they are as people. They’re good kids. We have three healthy, happy, well-adjusted kids. Why have kids if you’re not going to love them for who they are?” “I’m their mom, I’m supposed to be their biggest supporter.” And when she was questioned about her decision to paint a rainbow on the front of her home, Erin added: “My thinking is, go big or go home.” Hat Tip: Hello Giggles, Image via The Press Of Atlantic City
