PICS: Hero Dog Afraid To Jump In Water Swims Out To Sea To Save His Blind Friend

The pair only knew each other two months... true friendship.

Megan Cassidy

It’s nice to know someone’s got your back.

And blind spaniel Frodo knows he’s got at least one friend who will do anything for him, after his pal Jacko showed extraordinary bravery to save his life.

Dog 1

Jacko the hero lab

Amie Lynch told our bros at JOE.ie that she was out walking with Frodo and Jacko (a labrador) when the incredible incident occured.

While she kept Frodo, who is hydrophobic as well as blind, on a tight leash – she was throwing sticks into the sea for a fearful Jacko to chase.

When Frodo slipped free from his leash and fell off a ledge into the sea, Jacko, who had been afraid to jump in only moments before, acted on instinct and followed his friend into the sea.

Jacko guiding Frodo to safety

Amie described her fear when Frodo slipped in:

“I started to panic a little as I watched him swim away from the shore, out to sea.

“When I called him the sound was obviously bouncing around and he was very confused so proceeded to swim away from the beach. I started to take off my jacket thinking I’d have to go swim after him when Jacko (who was afraid of jumping off a few minutes before) hurled himself off the ledge and swam after Frodo.

“He swam up on the outside of him and turned him back towards the shore and guided him safely back to the beach.

Frodo all snuggled up safe and sound again

“He’s never been trained as a companion dog, obviously just acted on pure instinct. We’ve also only had him for two months and he was willing to overcome his fear to show loyalty to his mate.”
