Today marks the twelfth anniversary of the terrorist attacks on America, many people have set out to commemorate the day and honour the several thousand people who lost their lives.
One golf club in Wisconsin, America, decided to mark the date with discounted prices for the day.
This advert appeared in the Wisconsin State Journal for the Tumbledown Trails golf course in Verona, and went viral after it’s tragedy-themed promotional offers outraged and offended readers.
The club offered nine holes for $9.11 and 18 holes for $19.11, combined with the inappropriate use of exclamation marks and the repetition of the word ‘only’, we’re not surprised it received backlash.
People took to the club’s Facebook to express their outrage, using words like “distasteful,” "disgusting" and “disrespectful.”
The manager of the establishment responded to the abuse with an apology for those offended by the memorial deal.
“We hope that everyone will now see this as a positive as we really meant it to be,” the club wrote.
"Our attempts to remember the tragedy of that day were met with negativity and now even death threats.”
“Please stay tuned to see if we will be open on Weds 9/11."
“We are now worried about what people will do/say to our staff & do not want anything to happen or get out of control.”
