Every month, the Her.ie Book Club picks one book for our podcast, Between the Covers. This month, we have chosen Donal Ryan’s debut novel, The Spinning Heart.
The story is set in the aftermath of Ireland’s recession, and sees a flurry of tensions surface in an Irish town. Told from the perspectives of 21 different voices the novel pieces together the stories from this fractured community and speaks for contemporary Ireland where its people are in shock.
The local building firm that was once the heart and soul of the town has collapsed and its boss has fled the country leaving his employees lost, broke and betrayed.
