Carrol, a health care consultant, ended up being a match for Raleigh and offered to donate a kidney to save Callaway's life.
He said: "When I saw Raleigh's story, saw pictures of the girls and everything, and it hit me."
"That's what kind of surprised me a little bit, there was never a doubt. I mean, it's like if my own dad needed a kidney. That's how strongly I felt.
Speaking to USA Today, he added: "I just knew. Even though there were thousands of people who called in. I just had a feeling that was going to happen."
The transplant operations were carried out last month successfully. Both men have since been released from hospital and Callaway is expected to be in a position to return to work within the next three months.Research shows that reading regularly can help you live longer
