President Higgins met the Irish women’s hockey team yesterday.
It’s just over a month since the Irish ladies made it to the final of the Hockey World Cup, and wow, did they do us proud.
It was the first time the girls ever made it to the final, but sadly, they were defeated by an incredibly impressive team from The Netherlands.
The defeat was pretty hard to swallow, with a 0-6 loss, but these Irish women have so much to be proud of.
Ireland were ranked just 16th in world prior to the tournament, and now stand as the second best team in the world.
No too shabby.
What they’ve also done is put women’s hockey (and sport in general) on the map in Ireland.
Last night, they touched down in Áras an Uachtarain to meet our president, Michael D. Higgins, however it was his doggo who stole the show.
The President shared a picture of the moment he met the girls, and well… they were all glued to the dog, Bród.
