They may give us the cold shoulder from time-to-time, but sometimes furry felines just need a bit more love in their lives.

In honour of Hug Your Cat Day, yes it’s a thing, we’ve put together a list of the most important cats that have influenced our lives on the Internet and have continually brought smiles to our faces.

Here are 14 cats that you definitely need in your life!

1. Maru

Maru is a gorgeous Scottish Fold cat based in Japan, who has an extreme fondness of lazying about and playing with boxes. His owner, who does not show her face on camera, uploads footage of this playful kitty getting up to all sorts of mischief in their flat.

2. Grumpy Cat

Known by her family as Tardar Sauce, this cat became an Internet sensation because of her incredibly angry expression due to feline dwarfism and an underbite. Since her appearance in 2012, Grumpy Cat has appeared in all sorts of places including fan events, YouTube and even on TV.

3. Simon’s Cat

Simon’s Cat is a wonderful animated series featuring the hilarious antics of a fat white cat and his owner Simon. It’s one of the most popular animated channels on YouTube and always makes us smile!

4. Shorty and Kodi

This dynamic duo is known for having more dog-qualities than cat-qualities, where they manage to brighten people’s day with funny videos and mischievous shenanigans.

5. Lil’ Bub

Lil Bub is an American cat and celebrity, who’s known for her “perma-kitten” status. She rose to fame after her photos were uploaded to Tumblr and Reddit in 2011, and her popularity continued to grow – she documentary with her human friends even won an award at the Tribeca Film Festival!

6. Henri, le Chat Noir

This brilliant web show documents a series of whimsical and existential musing of a tuxedo cat. What will he contemplate next? Who knows!

7. Jupiter and Kona

Jupiter is a Russian White who stars alongside Kona a Turkish short-hair, and are two very talkative cats who now live in the US. Owned by YouTuber Snowybird, the pair are often dubbed over and given brilliant dialogue where to chat about all aspects of life.

8. Sam Has Eyebrows

A cat with eyebrows? What’s not to love! This quizzical looking cat has viewers constantly amused by his confused look, regardless of what he’s doing.

9. Sockington

Sockington or also known as “Sockamillion” or “Socks”, is a very cool domestic cat who lives in Waltham, Massachusetts. He’s probably seen as one of the old stock of the Internet sensation family and has been around on Twitter since 2007.

Nala is a 3-year-old siamese mix with tabby and has the most gorgeous eyes we’ve ever seen.  She was left at animal shelter when she was five months old but now has a loving home.

Hamilton is a rescue kitty that has a real moustache and it’s actually safe to say that it’s probably better than any moustache we have ever seen.

Another cat with gorgeous eyes, Snoopy the exotic shorthair has our hearts melting everytime he graces our screens. This lovable ball of fluff was born in 2011 and has fans across the globe waiting for the next photo to be uploaded.

Also known as the happiest cat in the world, Shironeko is unbelievably content and looks like they’re loving life. His name translates literally as “White Cat” and is truly a zen-master.

14. Honourable mention: The Late Colonel Meow

Sadly, the lovable Colonel Meow passed away this year, but we will forever keep him in our hearts.
