We’ve shared a few great debs pictures on Her.ie in recent weeks, but none quite like this one.

Pictured at the St. Mary’s graduation ball in Galway city last Tuesday are Kevin Cunningham and his beautiful date Ailbhe Connolly.

Like most young couples, the debs marked a very special landmark for the pair, but their story is somewhat different.

Back in June, 18-year-old Ailbhe was diagnosed with a brain tumour. A source close to Ailbhe, (who wishes to remain unnamed), told us that the brave young woman had one aim all summer, to make it to her beloved boyfriend’s debs.

Friends and family jokingly referred to Ailbhe as Cinderella on the night, as she was only able for a few hours of the big event and had to be home by twelve.

Her loved ones tell us that Kevin has been dating Ailbhe since December and he has been the very model of a gentleman, standing by her side since her diagnosis and visiting her regularly in Beaumont after her surgery. Ailbhe is in a rehabilitation centre at the moment, but her next aim is to be able to sit her Leaving Certificate next summer in Coláiste na Coiribe.

We’ve been told that sharing her story and this lovely moment will give Ailbhe a nice lift, but that she’s so strong and brave she has not complained once since her diagnosis.

Ailbhe, we’re in awe of you. Keep fighting, and hopefully there will be many, many more magical nights like this one ahead of you.
