Earlier in the week we shared the tragic news that Dalton Prager had died.
Dalton and his wife Katie met online before marrying in 2011.
The young couple's relationship had become known as a real life version of that at the centre of the movie and book
The Fault In Our Stars. Dalton, who was 25, had long battled with Cystic Fibrosis (CF), and in the two weeks prior to his death, had been on a ventilator in intensive care due to complications caused by a new infection.
Katie, who also had CF, was in a hospice in Kentucky, and so was unable to be by her husband's side in St Louis, Missouri, in his last moments due to the highly contagious nature of his illness. Both of them were too ill to travel to be by one another's side.
Katie said goodbye to Dalton on FaceTime instead. Her mother, Debra,
told CNN: "She told him that she loved him. We don't know if he heard her."
Dalton died on September 17
th at the age of 25.
Less than a week later, Katie has sadly also passed away at the age of 26.
Katie’s mother Debbie shared the news on her Facebook page.
“Early this morning, she gained her wish of being at home, in her bed, surrounded by her mom, dad, brother and her dogs, dying peacefully, away from the hospital, tubes, IVs. I know Dalton was waiting with open arms, as well as both her grandmother's and a host of family and friends that have gone before her,” read the post.
“The days to follow will not be easy but I find comfort in knowing that my girl lived, she really lived.”
Our thoughts are with the family.
