Research Says Many Women Experience This Unexpected Feeling After Sex

We were taken aback at these results.

It’s a well-known fact that sex releases releases the ‘love’ hormone oxytocin, but according to new research, it can also leave some women feeling down.

A recent study published in the Journal of Sexual Medicine says that 46 per cent of women surveyed reported symptoms of post-coital depression.

Symptoms of “post-coital dysphoria” or “post-sex blues” include feeling teary, agitation, a sense of melancholy or depression, anxiety and/or aggression.

According to The Independent, the study focused on sexually active female college students and five per cent of them said they had experienced the symptoms several times during the previous month.

Experts are still stumped as to what actually causes these blues but some have claimed that changes in hormones during sex itself may be responsible.

However, researchers from the Queensland Institute of Technology said that the “hormonal shifts which occur after orgasm” can cause post-coital headaches while also triggering the symptoms of “post-sex” blues.
