Restaurant owner Michael De Beyer is selling his business of 17 years to help save the life of a young employee who has a life-threatening brain tumour.
19-year-old Brittany Mathis is a waitress at De Beyer's 'Kaisherhof' restaurant in Montgomery, Texas.
According to American news outlet KHOU, Brittany visited the doctor in December due to a small rash on her leg.
Doctors performed MRIs and CAT scans to investigate why her blood was clotting and found a ping pong ball-sized mass in her brain.
Without health insurance, it's difficult for Mathis to afford the staggering medical costs and so her treatment was put on hold.
“It’s not right," De Beyer told KHOU. "Here’s a family, they really work hard; they have a lot of stuff against them in the past," he said, referring to Mathis' father, who passed away from an undetected brain tumor in 2000. "They didn’t even ask anybody for help.”
To help them, De Beyers has decided to sell his restaurant, located in a 6,000 square foot building, and plans to donate the proceeds to Mathis.
“I’m not able to just sit by and let it happen,” he added. “I couldn’t live with myself; I would never be happy just earning money from my restaurant knowing that she needs help."
