Ripples of shock were sent through the sporting world today as it was reported that Stephanie Roche has decided to part ways with her French football team ASPTT Albi.
According to France 24the 25-year-old Dubliner made the decision after spending time in Ireland over Christmas.
“(She has) decided to leave Albi… she doesn’t want to return to France,” said coach David Welferinger.
“She has benefited so much from her success, inevitably, she has had other offers from richer clubs. This is normal, we’re not going to hold her back, we’re studying the terms of breach of contract and wish her good luck even if we’re a little sad.”
Stephanie has been nominated for the FIFA Puskas Goal of The Year award after her cracking goal for Peamount United in 2013.
You can vote for her goal here, with lines open until January 12th.
Stephanie also caught up with Her.ie last week to talk about the goal.
