She explained PopSugar that if something important to someone - even if it may seem ridiculous to you - the response can feel like "a slap in the face".
She advised that, instead, you should "facilitate and assist" in soothing whatever anxieties your partner may have.
She added:
"So, even if they don't know why every candle in the house has to match, if they facilitate and assist, that is an act of real love and romance because it shows that even if they don't understand it or think it's important, it's important to you, so they're engaging and investing in it."
As for what you shouldn't do?
Dr Berman advises you to avoid trying to talk your partner out of it - even if you think they may be overreacting - and to put aside your own opinions on something your partner does care about.
By doing this, you're showing your partner how much you value them - as well as your relationship.
Dr Berman added:
"It's really important that each of you take responsibility for the bar that you're setting and the unnecessary stress that you're creating."So, the next time that your partner is upset about a missing shoe making them late or a wobbly picture frame, just take a deep breath and use Dr Berman's advice. It could be the most romantic thing you've ever done for them.
