“I saw the danger, yet I passed, along the enchanted way.”

I’m no mathematician but approx a third of the country is in France for today’s clash against the hosts, with the remainder gearing up in living rooms, local clubs, bars and even workplaces, for the 2pm kick-off.

The poems have been penned, songs have been sung, early mass attended, candles lit, prayers have been said and dinner ate early…

Today is the day Ireland seek revenge for Thierry Henry’s handball seven years ago and beat France in Ireland’s first ever knockout tie at the European Championships.

As if tensions weren’t high enough, RTÉ have only gone and put together a rousing preview of the game in Lyon, accompanied by the stunningly fitting lyrics of Patrick Kavanagh’s Raglan Road performed by the brilliant Luke Kelly.

Just when you thought that you couldn’t get more proud to be Irish…

For the 70th million time… COYBIG.
