The Fall returned to our screens on Sunday and Jamie Dornan fans would be advised to enjoy every minute, as the actor has said it is probably the last we’ll see of him as Paul Spector.

In an interview with Digital Spy, Dornan was asked about the possibility of a third season of the BBC crime drama but dashed the hopes of thousands with his response.

“I’m not sure I’d be involved in it, for story reasons,” he said.

The 32-year-old said that he enjoyed the challenge of playing his serial killer character and despite being “absolutely knackered” from other filming commitments, he admits “I found myself very eager to become him again”.

“I like playing characters who are fractured, broken. I find that more relatable, for some reason. I don’t feel that I’m like that myself by nature, but there’s just something that you can really grab hold of if people have a darkness in them, I think.”

He also revealed that viewers will be getting more of an insight into the reason’s behind Paul’s actions in the current series, saying that he believes the juxtaposition between the character’s family life and brutal tendencies is the “genius of the show”.

“I think we set the precedent for that in the first series – it was always a ‘whydunnit’ – but that’s probably explored slightly more in the second series,” he said.

“I think [series creator and writer] Allan Cubitt has said that Spector is probably incapable of love and that he doesn’t love his children. But I do think he loves his kids, I think to a point he loves his wife.”
