We all know that when it comes to having a difficult conversation with someone, cake always helps and this coming-out story by a girl named Laurel not only has cake, it also has a brilliant coming-out letter and a happy ending. Sure what more could you want?
Laurel decided to come out to her parents by using baked goods and she posted all about her experience on her Tumblr page.
“I am very obvious about my gay-ness. All my friends and teachers already knew. Family was the next big step for me,” writes Laurel on her Tumblr page.
Fed up of being in the closet, Laurel baked the following cake (affectionately dubbed a ‘GAYke’) and left it (and a note) where her parents would see it:

Here’s what the note says, just in case you can’t make it out in the above picture:
“Good morning parents,
I’m gay. I’ve wanted to tell you for a long time. I thought doing it this way would be a piece of cake. I hope you still love me. I mean, it’s hard not to love someone who baked you a cake.
All my friends know and still love me. Your acceptance would be the icing on the cake.
I hope you, much like this cake, are not in tiers.
I hope we can look back on this and say “Boy, this one really takes the cake.”
It gets batter.
Love, Laurel (sorry for so many puns).”
Laurel then live-blogged her entire experience, telling her Tumblr followers how she was hiding in her bedroom, pretending to be asleep before she went downstairs to see her parents’ reaction.
The good news is that both her parents were happy with her decision to finally tell them about her sexuality.
Laurel posted the following picture along with the message:

“My mom saw it and cried of happiness. We hugged and cried together. Then we all ate the cake and talked.”
We love a happy ending, don’t you?
