Scientists Reveal We’ve Been Getting Rid Of Our Hiccups All Wrong

And it's actually a LOT simpler than we thought.

Another thing we’ve been doing wrong our whole lives.

There’s nothing worse than trying to keep your sh*t together when you’ve had too much to drink and being shafted by the hiccups.

Im fine

They’re often accompanied by the phrase “I’m not even *hiccup* that drunk!” and closely followed by your mate scaring the absolute bejaysus out of you with a fright from behind.

Well, it turns out there is absolutely no scientific evidence to say that getting a fright gets rid of hiccups, despite it being nearly everyone’s go-to cure.

Nope, according to Niket Sonpal, M.D., assistant clinical professor of gastroenterology at Touro College of Medicine, the best way to get rid of them is a lot more simple.

Speaking to Women’s Health, he suggests simply sipping and gargling some cold water until they go away.

He also said that a big factor is stress, so try not to freak out and know that “time will simply help them dissipate.”

As for holding your breath? This can work too, as long as you don’t get panicked and stay relaxed.

So next time your mate pretends she’s pregnant to “scare the hiccups” away, you are fully entitled to get revenge.
