Screen printing studio Jando are holding a special event for Culture Night this year

Keeley Ryan

Culture Night is just around the corner.

One of our favourite nights of the year, the annual cross-country event celebrates culture, creativity and the arts.

On Friday, September 20, arts and cultural organisations and venues of all shapes and sizes, including the National Cultural Institutions, extend their opening hours to allow for increased access to the public.

There will even be special and unique events and workshops, specifically designed for participating locations – and everything is available free of charge.

To mark this year’s celebrations, screen printing studio JANDO will be holding live demonstrations in The Chocolate Factory in Dublin’s city centre.

From 5pm until 10pm, guests will have the opportunity to pull their own screen print which they can take home with them.

JANDO was founded in 2015 by husband and wife Julie and Owen Mc Loughlin. Since then, the city centre-based studio has won a number of awards.

Making art accessible to all, JANDO creates an original range of architectural inspired fine art prints of iconic Dublin, Ireland and London landmarks.

The event will be held at The Chocolate Factory, which was first built between 1908 and 1910.

Dublin’s first concrete structure, the original Williams & Woods building on King’s Inn Street  is giving members of the public a unique opportunity to visit the historic space in which The Toblerone and The Mint Crisp were once manufactured.

Now home to over 30 residents, The Chocolate Factory is a shared creative space which houses an eclectic mix of small businesses and individuals in creative sectors including art, design, music, photography, craft, up-cycling, yoga, dance, illustration, graphics, events and small batch drink production.

To celebrate Culture Night, residents such as Jando, Kopper Kreation, The Nature of Things,  Native Demin and King of Kefir will hold screen printing  demonstrations, open studios and drink tastings for visitors to enjoy accompanied by a DJ and food and drinks in Blas Café.
