“Always remember that, if you will fall I will catch you. After I finish laughing.” – anon.
We weren’t born graceful, and we don’t have an elegant glide. What we will require is someone to laugh with us when we’re just after face-planting, in front of the beautiful boy, just as we were in his sights. Because that’s life, and sometimes we just need to giggle at it.
“We’ll be best friends forever because you already know too much” – anon.
You know that time you went skinny dipping on your J1? Or the lad you kissed who might have already been dating someone else? There’s a best friend who knows all your secrets and will take them to her grave. Or else you’ll murder her. She knows too much but it’s ok, it’s totally reciprocated and you’ve a backlog of stories too.
This is why we love her. She understands our need for a selective memory. She has one too.
“When I say I won’t tell anyone, my best friend doesn’t count”
Clearly everyone boyfriend worth a pinch of salt knows he’s dating not just one, but two girls. There are no secrets between you, and if you have a secret you can’t tell your bestie, chances are it’s for her surprise party. The rule applies to all gossip and scandal. She needs to know. It’s your duty.
“Friends buy you food. Best friends eat your food.”
We all know a real best friend is way beyond politeness and manners. You don’t bring food to her house, you plonk yourself in front of her fridge and raid the presses for chocolate biscuits. While you’re standing you may as well throw on the kettle. Everyone knows it’s not a real chat until you’ve made a cuppa.
“If you live to be 100 then I hope I live 100 minus 1 day. So I never have to live without you” – Winnie The Pooh
Our Winnie is a bear of wise words. Whether he was busy tracking down that honey, or having a natter with friends, Pooh is the bear with the big heart who knows what really matters in life. We all know one friend who we couldn’t live without. From cuddles through break-ups and tea for life’s little dilemmas, it’s important to have the one friend we couldn’t live without. She’s not a friend, she’s a soulmate.
