When the going gets tough, there’s only one woman to call.
The constant stream of unsolicited Mam advice that wrecked your head growing up suddenly become words to live by when you hit your twenties.
It turns out she was right about everything all along.
Whether it’s a gentle reminder about not getting notions about our station or a much-needed boost when you’ve been out gallivanting too much, here are seven times in life when a call home to Mam is the only solution.
When you come out of a job interview
She’s without a doubt the person in the world most interested in hearing every detail about the event. Sure she had every candle in the house lighting for you all morning. Whether you come out full sure you’ve got the job or convinced it was an unmitigated disaster, she’ll know what to say.
“What’s for you won’t pass you by” are the words we cling to when it’s all going wrong.
When you’re signing a new lease
Taking on a new lease can sometimes feel like you’re signing your life away. If it all reads like hyroglifics to you, there’s only one woman to go through it with you on the phone.
When you need to sort your life out
Health insurance? What’s health insurance? Tax to reclaim? How do I do that? Passport and driving licence to renew? How? Blood type? I have a blood type?
We don’t know how our Mams have the answers to all of these questions. They just do. And they’re amazing.
When you need cooking advice
Trying to recreate her famous Sunday roast but realise you’ve actually no idea how to go about doing it? She knows how the answer to every question you’ll ever have.
When you’ve got a work problem
There’s a situation at work you’re not sure how to deal with. Of course she’ll know what to do. She’s either been there before or wise enough to help you come to a smart decision.
When you need boy advice
Whether you’ve just fallen head over heels or had your heart broken, she’ll listen, be excited, commiserate, and always be there to offer some words of wisdom
When it all gets too much
Really awful days come along every once in awhile and the first person we’re on the phone to during those dark moments is our Mam. She’ll put it all in perspective and tell you everything is going to be alright.
Make sure you give your Mam a call this Mother’s Day just to tell her how much you love her.
