In a bizarre business move, Harold van Beek, at Jewelry By Harold in Iowa, is offering free guns to engagement ring buyers in his store.

Husbands-to-be, well fingers crossed when his wife sees what he received as a free toy, will be offered a free gun if they spend $1,999 (€1,500) in his shop.

Harold said he wanted to “do something for the boy who doesn't like to hunt for diamonds but likes to hunt for deer”.

Not your average jewellery shop...
The rifle offer is subject to Iowa laws on gun ownership. Those barred include criminals and addicts.
For all interested men, the deal starts Thursday and will run through to the end of October.
