Sir David Attenborough has officially joined Instagram and we couldn’t be happier

Niamh Maher

Every time he trends on twitter my heart stops… anyone else?

I consider myself incredibly privileged, I’m one of the few people who’ve seen Sir David Attenborough speak live (it was at Glastonbury and there were actually thousands of other people there too). I can say, without fail, that he is one of the most inspiring humans we have on this planet and he’s now taking his inspirational message to Instagram for the first time.

Yes, he’s joined the social media platform to share information and updates about his new film A Life On Our Planet.

Here’s the first video shared in all its glory:

David Attenborough has spent a lifetime travelling, exploring the wild places of our planet and documenting the living world in all its variety and wonder. He’s also witnessed the damaged caused. Saving our planet is now a communications challenge. We know what to do, we just need the will. That’s why we want to share this message on Instagram. Because there is hope and together, we can inspire change. Social media isn’t David’s usual habitat so while he’s recorded messages solely for Instagram, like the one in this post, we’re helping to run this account. In case you’re wondering, ‘we’ are Jonnie and Colin and we worked with David on A Life On Our Planet. So, as well as sharing the messages he’s recorded especially for this account we’ll also post some exclusive clips and behind the scenes content. Stay tuned.

Ok, so it’s not the man himself who will be uploading that frequently, I doubt we’ll get to see his cup of coffee or brunch flat-lay (he is 94 remember), the account will be run mostly by some behind-the-scenes producers who introduced themselves via stories.

Colin Butfield and Jonnie Hughes are two of the producers from Attenborough’s latest film, they said; “Expect us and others to share our experiences making the film and working with David alongside messages from the man himself”.

The account has over 500k followers at the time of publication and we’re pretty sure that’s going to be out of date within minutes.

Welcome Sir David, you’ve already made Instagram a better place.
