Six Ways To Help Others This Christmas

Tis the season!

Her

Christmas is supposed to be a time of joy and cheer but unfortunately, this is not the case for many.

So, before you sit down for your Christmas dinner, take a few minutes to think about whether you can do anything to make things a little easier for someone else.

Here are a few ideas…

  1. Call into an elderly neighbour or relation

It can be hard to pull yourself off the couch over the festive period but dropping in on a grandparent or elderly relation for an hour can make the world of difference to their day. Whether it’s putting down a fire, making sure they have enough food or just having a chat, this is a simple gesture that will put a smile on their face.

  1. Volunteer

If you have a little more time, why not volunteer a few hours to help those in need? Many charities come under increasingly pressure over the festive period and can always do with a helping hand. Check out which ones are operating in your area, give them a call and see what you can do.

  1. Fundraise

Christmas is a big time for fundraising events, whether it’s a chilly swim on Christmas morning or a fun quiz in your local. Sign up, organise a whiparound or at home and do your bit.

  1. Donate

Similarly, if you don’t have time to volunteer yourself, why not donate some money to a worthy cause? Childline recently launched an appeal to keep their children’s helpline over 24/7 and you can throw them a few bob here.

  1. Make a little gesture

They say charity begins at home and we couldn’t agree more. Help make the Christmas days run a bit smoother but helping those close to you. Lend a hand with Christmas dinner, take your younger siblings out for a few hours or take the dog for a walk – every little helps.

  1. Shop smart

Left those Christmas pressies til last minute? Do something really special this year by making a donation in lieu of a gift.
