Skerries has been named as Ireland’s Tidiest Town of 2016

Fair play Skerries.

The Dublin town scooped the top tidy town while Birdhill in Co. Tipperary was awarded the tidiest village after 859 towns and villages entered the Tidy Towns competition this year. Other awards included: Tidiest Small Town - Listowel, Co.Kerry Tidiest Large Town - Skerries, Co.Dublin (marking the town's 2nd award this year) Tidiest Large Urban Centre - Ennis, Co.Clare

Michael Ring, T.D., Minister for Regional Economic Development, attended the awards and spoke afterward about what a significant achievement this is for Skerries.

“This is a fantastic achievement for Skerries; a really worthy winner. This is the 1^st time Skerries has won the overall prize.  Skerries have first entered the competition in 1959 and their win today is evidence of their consistently achieving high standards in the competition at local and regional level. "This much sought after award is recognition of a town that embraces all aspects of the SuperValu TidyTowns Competition, builds strong community links and has grown each year in the competition. So my congratulations to Skerries and all of the other deserving prize-winners announced today".

This is SuperValue's 25th year to sponsor the competition and today, Martin Kelleher, Managing Director of the supermarket retailer said:
