Smiley Face Alert – There Are 37 New Emojis to Choose From

This is worthy of a smiley face or two... Emoji lovers, rejoice. A new collection of your favourite visual communication aids have been made available. On Wednesday, The Unicode Consortium officially approved 37 new emojis as part of Unicode 8. It's good news for those of us who like to talk, text and tweet food - as the new updates include a taco, a burrito, a hot dog and popcorn all made the grade. The sporty folk amongst us will also be pleased, as a badminton racquet, ice hockey stick and puck, a table tennis paddle and volleyball are also among the new additions. It's safe to assume the new "face with rolling eyes" will become a firm favourite in no time at all, but we may be most excited about the unicorn. Support for the new characters is dependent on platform updates. According to Mac Rumors, The Unicode Consortium is already working on Unicode 9 for 2016, with proposed additions including "bacon, avocado, shrug, croissant, owl, selfie, drooling face", and more.
