Be sound: Clean up the canal in Dublin and you’ll get a takeaway voucher

Olivia Hayes

Seems like a good trade.

No matter what time of year it is, once the sun hits Dublin you can be guaranteed to see hundreds of people fill the canals in Dublin.

It’s the ultimate drinking spot when it comes to summertime cans, however, as we’re sure you’ve noticed, it is left absolutely filthy afterwards.

Manky, like.

Of course, all that little effects the environment, and in turn our planet however, Deliveroo has just announced that it will be running its canal clean up initiative once again on May 4.

Volunteers are being invited to spend a small part of their Saturday picking up rubbish around the canal areas of Charlemont Mall.

All volunteers will be provided with buckets, litter pickers and gloves, and when you arrive back with a full bucket of rubbish, you will be rewarded with a €10 credit voucher to spend on Deliveroo. Class.

A spokesperson for Deliveroo said: “It’s fantastic to see Irish people enjoying this spell of good weather as people eat and drink outdoors, but in doing so we must be respectful of the local environment.”

“It’s great to see the many volunteer groups that regularly meet up to clean up the surrounding areas, such as Friends of the Grand Canal, and we want to do our part this weekend with the help of willing volunteers.”

The clean up will take place along the canal banks of Charlemont Mall from 10am until 6pm on May 4, with anyone and everyone being invited to take part for a short time to receive credit to use on the Deliveroo.

G’wan, you might as well.
