Professor Stephen Hawking was diagnosed with Motor Neurone Disease at the age of 21. In this very powerful video uploaded online the Cambridge mastermind reminds the public just why the Ice Bucket Challenge began and the reason we all should continue to support it.
Hawking's explained that he could not participate in the challenge himself, however his children were willing to do it for him.
"Because I had pneumonia last year, it would not be wise for me to have a bucket of cold water poured over me," the 72-year-old told the camera.
"But my children, Robert, Lucy and Tim, gallantly volunteered to take the challenge for me.
"I urge you to donate to the MNDA, to eliminate this terrible disease".
So far your efforts have raised over €1 million for the Irish Motor Neurone Disease Association and after watching this short clip, it will inspire you to keep donating.
