If you want to spot the Pinocchio in your group of friends, a new study suggests some signature traits could let you in on a dose of reality.
According to
i100, a new
study from the University of Michigan analysed more than 100 video clips to determine the body language traits of someone acting dishonestly.
The videos included testimonies and YouTube videos in which interviewees were asked their opinions on films that didn’t exist.
The study points at frantically waving hands and paying more attention to creating and keeping eye contact than usual, as the two most obvious traits of fibbers.
Other traits to watch out for include scowling and head-nodding.

The study, which researchers are hoping will be used to develop lie-detecting technology, did point out that eye-contact was also used by those truthful participants, but at a smaller percentage of just 60 per cent compared to the liars racking up 70 per cent eye contact.
How can you be sure what side of the truth debate you’re facing?
It might be worth checking for a multitude of signs.
