Having trouble dropping the pounds, or can’t seem to snap out of snacking? New research might have solved the problem – introduce a single serving of lentils to your daily diet.
A new study published in Obesity journal, has found that eating a single serving a day of beans, peas, chickpeas, or lentils can increase fullness, reducing the need to snack which lead to weight loss amongst patients.
Researchers from St. Michael's Hospital Clinical Nutrition and Risk Factor Modification Centre reviewed nine clinical trials involving 126 participants.
The trials found that people felt 31% fuller after eating an average of 160 grams of dietary pulses compared to those who didn't include them in their diet.
Following the trial, studies proved that those who ate the pulses were feeling satisfied and fuller for longer, aiding to their gradual weight loss.
Pulses are digested slowly, and are high in fibre and protein – all linked to long-lasting fullness and weight loss.
Following the study, researchers suggest serving yourself at least 3/4 cup (or 130 grams) of the legumes a day, as part of your five portions of fruit and vegetables advised by dieticians.
