It's not your ex - that's Stephens' night.

No, it’s not your ex – that’s on St. Stephens’ night…

Christmas time is definitely a time for making calls to friends or loved ones.

That call to the relative living abroad, or to your friend down the road to make plans for St Stephen’s Day, or simply a Happy Christmas text or call.

Tesco Mobile have done a survey to find out people’s festive phone habits and the results have found that Mammies are the first person people will contact on Christmas Day.

Next on their list would be a best friend. People from Ulster are more likely to get in touch with grandparents, than any of the other provinces.

Over half of the people surveyed said that they will be spending less time on their phones this Christmas, with men admitting they will more than likely take a break from their phone during the festive period. 20 per cent of people admitted to Skyping or Facetiming a family member over Christmas dinner.

No surprise that smartphones play a major role in helping people connect over Christmas, with women more likely than men to wish someone a happy Christmas through Facebook. Overseas calls and texts also increase over Christmas, with the most popular destinations for international calls and texts being, Poland, The UK, Romania, India, Lithuania, USA & Canada, Brazil, Latvia, Germany, Italy, Australia and Bangladesh.

When asked what famous person they would most like to receive a call from on Christmas Day, a third of men said Barack Obama, while most women opted for Brad Pitt. Then when the same question was asked about Snapchat, women chose Ed Sheeran, while men wanted to hear from Brian O’Driscoll through the social media app.
