He’s finally here! After a long, long wait Voice of Ireland star Kelly McDonagh has given birth to a bouncing baby boy.
The Sunday World reports that Kelly went into labour late on Friday night and little Michael Bernard came into the world 10 days after he was originally supposed to. We can already tell that he’s a baby who likes to make an entrance – sure didn’t he have us all on the edge of our seats waiting to see if he’d arrive during an episode of the Voice of Ireland?
Weighing in at 9lbs 80z, baby Michael Bernard has been named after his super-proud daddy.
“It was a long labour, 15 hours,” said Kelly.
“It was a natural birth and I had a very hard time, but everything is perfect,” she added.

Kelly is thrilled with her new arrival
Michael Bernard came into the world at 11:45pm on Friday night in the maternity ward of Cork University Hospital.
“Bernie was with me for about half of the labour but had to leave as they thought I might have to get a section,” said Kelly.
“I’m delighted everything went well, it was long but it was well worth it in the end. It was all hard work for the little dote but he’s the best gift ever,” she added.
Bernie joined Kelly in the hospital once little Michael came into the world and it wasn’t long before family arrived to wish the couple well and say hello to the newest addition.
“This is the first grandchild on both sides of the family, so everyone is thrilled,” said Kelly.
“Good has been good, everything has worked out perfectly and I’m now going to concentrate on my baby,” she added.
Kelly finished second in the Voice of Ireland competition, missing out to Keith Hanley in the live final last Sunday. Kelly had been tipped as the favourite to win however she says she’s just as pleased with her runner-up position.
“I was delighted to have got so far, I was very happy after five days of being overdue that I was able to stand on stage and take part,” said Kelly.
“The weight was something else but it was worth it in the end. I could feel the baby kicking a lot and it seemed to kick a bit more whenever I sang, maybe it was because I was nervous. I’m not sure if he liked the music or not, whether he was kicking more to the beat or because he didn’t like the noise!” she added.
Congratulations Kelly!
