When it comes to getting engaged, the one thing that we all want is the perfect ring. It has to be beautiful, sparkly and unique. Well, this bride definitely got a one-of-a-kind ring when her man popped the question.
NBC News reports that Ben Kokes, an inventor, spent months creating an unusual engagement ring for his girlfriend Julie. Ben wanted Julie’s ring to literally light up with his love for her – but only when he put it on her finger and held her hand.
Ben came up with the idea of crafting Julie a ring that glows whenever he’s near a few months ago, but didn’t manage to finalise a design until the beginning of this year. He spent the next few months sneaking away to work on the ring, although he admits that it wasn’t easy to escape Julie’s gaze. Mainly because she loves building and inventing things too.
“She kinda likes this kind of thing, so it was tough making excuses for why I was going to the shop all the time,” said Ben.

Ben's amazing light up engagement ring
Eventually, the ring was completed and all Ben had to do was ask Julie if she wanted to be his wife.
“I took her hiking – we live in San Francisco, and the plan was to propose at dusk on top of one of the hills,” said Ben.
Unfortunately for him, it was really cloudy on the night in question but Ben went ahead with his plan as soon as they were sheltered from the elements.
He got down on one knee and touched the ring so it would light up before he offered it to her. Julie was thrilled and happily accepted Ben’s glowing proposal.
The ring worked like a charm for the big question, although it broke the next day. However, Ben is currently working on the replacement and hopes that the next one will work for life.
