Come on you girls in green!
It’s been a rollercoaster of a week so far for the Irish Women’s 3x3 Basketball team and there’s still a big test lying in wait for them this afternoon.
The talented side will face off to the Czech Republic later today (Thursday) in the Women’s 3x3 Basketball Round of 16 at the European Games in Baku.

Ireland secured a third place finish earlier on in the week, with
a determined win over Slovakia on Wednesday afternoon.
Despite previous losses to Spain and Slovenia, the women in green managed to avoid a clash with top seeds Russia, but it looks like the Czech Republic will not be easy opponents.

Indeed, looking at the stats, it seems as though experience may be what will stand to the Czech women today, with the team placed sixth in the world and have a combined number of 308 3x3 games played – in comparison to just 120 games for Team Ireland.

The Czech side also boasts substantial height, with two of the squad, Teresa Vorlova and Romana Stehlikova standing at 6’1 and 6’3 respectively.
The last time the sides met was in Hungary earlier this month, where Team Ireland succumbed to a 20-10 point defeat.
Will the girls in green have what it takes to come out on top?
We certainly think so, and one thing’s for sure, all eyes will be on Azerbaijan at 3.30pm (Irish time) today.
Get ready to roar Ireland – it’s time to shout our girls on!
