Here are seven reasons why we miss our student cards… All you university newbies do not take them for granted!
1. Lets Go Shopping
Ladies, we will admit that the majority of us have one main vice (besides loving chocolate) and that is shopping.
Selected stores offer student discount. There is no better feeing than walking out of a shop knowing that you’ve just saved yourself a few euro. Ah, if only we had a time machine.
2. Fresh-Faced
You will never look as young ever again in your entire life. Ever. Some of us still carry around our first year college picture for ID. What?! Don’t judge us.
3. Food anyone?
When you’re finished shopping, you can go grab some food for cheap. We love a good bargain and food is no different.
Between student lunch specials and earlybird menus, there’s something great about eating and knowing you’re getting money off… Food almost tastes nicer!
4. Picture Perfect
Unlike your driver’s licence or passport, if you aren’t particularly happy with your student card image, you can always change it in next year.
Student cards are updated annually so if you’re not feeling absolutely fabulous this year, make sure you are next year!
5. I Hear The Train A Comin’
Travelling is so much easier when you have your student card as it allows you to purchase discounted train tickets.
For those Cork cailíní, Kerry lassies, Limerick ladies, Galwegian girls and not forgetting the northern stars that make the commute to college, be it every day or just at the weekends, student cards make the train journey that little bit easier, at least on the bank balance. We miss those days… They were ‘on-rail’, (we’re not sorry).
6. Cinema Popcorn
Travelling to your nearest cinema with housemates and new college friends is a great way to spend a few hours, particularly on the designated days for students.
Saving money on the cinema ticket meant that more damage could be done at the Pic n’ Mix.
7. Student Nights Out
Promotions don’t just stop at travel, clothing, food and entertainment; your student card is also great on the social scene too.
Enjoy the cheaper admission prices and the drinks promotions (sensibly) while you can!
Travelling by train with Iarnród Éireann is the comfortable and affordable way to travel and they have great value student fares. To be in with a chance to win one of hundreds of free student train tickets up for grabs this fall tweet your origin and destination with the #RailFTW.
