Martin Curran, a DJ from Donegal, has become the first person to propose at the top of America’s new Freedom Tower. The Letterkenny man got down on one knee to ask his girlfriend Linda Cribben to marry him.
Marty arranged the trip with his friends in the Port Authority according to the Donegal Daily, but almost didn’t manage to climb the last three floors: “We had to walk up the last three floors and I was green. I just wasn’t taking the height very well at all. Linda suggested I stay where I was but I couldn’t allow her to go on without me.”
Martin had thought the most he could get to would be the 80th floor as most of the building is under construction. They had to get a hoist from the 80th floor to 104, and then took the stairs.

The pair made the climb on St. Patrick's Day and luckily, Linda said yes! The couple were then invited to sign a beam that will remain in the tower forever.
The tower is under construction in replacement of the Twin Towers since 2006 and will hopefully be completed by the end of this year.
