Black pudding has always been a bone of contention when it comes to a full Irish.

Some love it, some hate it, and others are just completely creeped out by the fact that it’s a blood sausage.

Well, it’s a big day for the humble black pudding, as it has now been given superfood status.

what

According to online health retailed Musclefood.com, black pudding has been deemed the “superstar of 2016”.

The term “superfood” can apply to any food that contains significant health and nutritional benefits, and has been a notoriously controversial term.

But call it what you like, the nutritional benefits speak for themselves.

The pudding is packed with protein and basically carb free.

But the big pull is that it is rich in iron and zinc – two minerals which are commonly deficient in modern diets.

Darren Beale, of Musclefood commented in the superfood predictions for 2016.

According to The Metro, he said: “Some of the foods we have named have been on the up for a while like avocado oil and maca root, but others like mushrooms and black pudding have been a total surprise to us.”
