Jack and Emily continue to hold the top spot for the most popular baby names according to new statistics revealed by the Central Statistics Office (CSO) this morning.

The two names continue to remain at the top of the pile, having already topped a poll earlier this year. Back then, they were followed closely by the names Emma, Sophie, Ella and Amelia and James, Daniel, Conor and Sean.

Other interesting facts announced today included that there were 35,272 baby boys born in 2013 compared to 33,658 baby girls.

Today’s report also revealed that there is 1,072,477 people in full-time education while eight out of ten households have internet access.

Irish people still enjoy taking trips abroad as 6.6 million trips were made out of the country, but an even higher seven million trips were made into the country in the last year.

Our population is at 4,609,600 with the highest number of people falling into the 35-64 years age category at 1,800,900.

Meanwhile, the unemployment rate in 2013 was 13.9% and GDP was €174,791 million.
