For years there has been a stereotype that when it comes to ageing, men fare better than women. Yes, as we go grey and get wrinkles, he somehow, magically, tends to get more attractive rather than old. However, the tables could be starting to turn.
Some detailed new research, carried out by Yves Saint Laurent, has revealed that when it comes to the perception of growing older, women now believe that they are ageing better than men. And the men agree!
The research revealed that almost two thirds of us womenfolk said that were were ageing better than our other halves and 59 per cent of them said the exact same thing.
In fact, over half of men said that they now think they age faster than women. The men who were questioned as part of the research said that they start to “look old” as soon as they hit 44, while women said they didn’t start to look aged until they reached 46.
Surprisingly, one in ten men said there was rivalry between him and his partner over how good they looked for their age.

Men are getting more and more worried about growing older
“There has always been an assumption that women are more susceptible to age faster than men. But this research shows the stereotype is changing. Women have always been much more aware of the ageing process and as a result this may mean they are making provisions that men aren’t,” said a spokesperson for YSL.
“Females have had it drummed into them about the effects that things like smoking, sun exposure and a bad diet can have on their skin and overall appearance, so perhaps women are taking action to fight the signs of ageing,” the spokesperson added.
However, the fact that we’re ageing better than our partners doesn’t stop us from worrying about how we look. One in four women said that they regularly worry that they look older than their other half, and an embarrassed one in twenty admitted that they had been mistake for their partner’s mother rather than their wife/girlfriend.
When it comes to the topic of ageing are you of the opinion that you should grow old gracefully or that you should take all the help you can get to keep your youthful looks?
