One of Ireland's best loved broadcasters, Gerry Ryan passed away on this day in 2010. Most of us fondly remember him as the host of 2fm chat show, the Gerry Ryan Show, a radio programme which whether you loved it or hated it, often began conversations from controversial to touching.
Gerry was a household friend to the many who checked in with him on a daily basis and we at Her.ie towers still miss that immistakeable voice. Here are seven reasons why Ryan was one of our favourites...
1. He opened the Ryanline
Ryan opened the Ryanline in 1988, a programme which ran right up until his death in 2010. The show apparently earned RTE a rumoured €27,000 per day!

2. The "Lambo" incident
Ryan spent some time with some volunteers in the wilds of Connemara and earned the nickname "Lambo" when he claimed he killed a lamb to survive. The story was later confirmed as a hoax, but still earned Ryan the nickname.

3. The family man.
We all knew her as the "Good Mrs. Ryan" but Gerry's wife Morah was a lot of inspiration for his show, and of course, his family. Morah famously rang the show back in 1997 and informed Ryan's listeners about some of his household habits...

4. He certainly wasn't afraid to have the chat
Here's Ryan talking to a lady about vibrators at 10am in the morning.
5. Ryan Confidential.
Who else would insult Ramsay to his face?
6. He hosted the School around the Corner.
Apparently working with kids is difficult, not for Gerry.
7. The impact he made..
This is a collection of clips from the last week of the Gerry Ryan show...
