In fact, out of a list of the 10 happiest moments to expect in your life, all but two experiences are all about the love.
In a new study, a group of men and women aged 70 or more, were asked to list the moments in their lives where they experienced sheer happiness.
Abandoning that dream job or expensive holiday, family and friends dominated the top 10:
- Birth of a child (12.3%)
- Wedding day (11.5%)
- Birth of grandchildren (10%)
- Birth of another child (8.5%)
- Day of retirement (7.4%)
- Moving into a new home (6.7%)
- Child’s first steps (5.5%)
- Child’s first words (5.4%)
- Meeting your significant other (4.5%)
- First kiss of someone you love (4.4%)
As well as ranking their happiest moments, the group were asked to share the times they felt happiest in their lives.
Women marked their 38th year as their happiest while men were only a little older, saying their 40th year was when they were most content.
