Twitter has been in our lives for seven years now, and some of us jumped onboard the tweeting machine much earlier than others, but eventually the rest caved and now life would seem incomplete without our favourite social media.
Twitter is current, up-to-date and the main attraction is we can now learn about everything as it is happening, allowing us to engage and interact with fellow tweeters about topical events. So it only makes sense that The RaboDirect Tweeties 2013 want to celebrate the best tweets in Ireland.
The #RaboTweeties in 140 characters:
The RaboDirect Tweeties? The first awards show to recognise the power, reach and genius of Twitter & the people, businesses, media firms and celebrities who use it.
The Tweetie Awards will give Ireland’s Twitter users the opportunity to say what exactly makes them tweet. For the first time users have the chance to nominate a person or organisation, all the Tweeter must do is simply use the designated hashtag for each category.
The 13 categories include: Best Celebrity (vote using #TweetieCelebrity), Sport (#TweetieSport), Business (#TweetieBusiness), News & media (#TweetieNews), Best Charity (#TweetieCharity) and Television (#TweetieTV) to name but a few.

RaboDirect's Martin O’Leary, and DigitalTimes.ie's Stephen Conmy at The RaboDirect Tweeties launch.
Speaking at the Tweeties launch, DigitalTimes.ie editor, Stephen Conmy said: “The idea for the RaboDirect Tweeties came about simply because it has become, in such a short space of time, a far reaching real-time platform for breaking news, entertainment and information sharing. Just as film, TV, radio and print have their award shows, I thought those who use Twitter to inspire and inform should also be recognised.”
Following a shortlist announcement in September, tweeters will have one vote per category to choose the winners of the inaugural RaboDirect Tweeties. The winners will be announced at a ticket and invite awards show in The Odeon, Harcourt Street, Dublin 2 on Wednesday the 2nd October.
