The Irish nanny who is currently being held in the US on charges of inflicting fatal injuries to a one-year-old baby girl is set to have “more serious charges” filed against her.
The Irish Independent reports that Aisling McCarthy Brady, a nanny originally from Lavey in Co Cavan, has been charged with assault and battery which caused fatal injuries to one-year-pld Rehma Sabir.
Last Friday, at Cambridge District Court in Massachusetts, prosecutors told the court that they “fully and firmly” expect to upgrade the charges against the nanny onces the results of an autopsy have been released.
According to reports, the court was told that the autopsy of little Rehma had not yet been completed due to “substantial and complex medical issues.”

The incident happened near Boston in the States
However, despite these issues Melinda Thompson, Ms McCarthy Brady’s lawyer has once again insisted that her client is innocent and the case that the prosecution is building against her is weak.
“My client has been in jail for 65 days. The charges have not been upgraded now for 65 days. There is an innocent person sitting in jail,” said Ms Thompson.
It is being alleged that Ms McCarthy Brady caused severe injuries to Rehma Sabir back in January. Police were called to the home of the child’s family where they found the baby breathing but unconscious.
The child was immediately rushed to the children’s hospital in Boston where she was found to be suffering from haemorrhaging of the eyes and swelling of the brain. Doctors noted that there were also numerous older bone fractures to the child that were still in the process of healing.
Prosecutors have been granted a continuance by Judge Roanne Sragow until April 22. On that date, a probably cause hearing will take place.
